Locating Bass and Pike

Landon from rush N.Y. writes:

Hi Cindy, my name is Landon and I was wondering about locating fish such as bass and pike. Mainly the big fish. A lot of people say you should throw your lure into cover, but how thick should cover be. And what lures go good with what kind of cover. Thank you for your time and please reply!

Cindy replies:

Hi Landon

I do work structure. I usually work the edges of it. The reason why is that fish will position themselves in an ambush position waiting for food to go by. They will come out, snag the food and return to the cover.

For largemouth I like to use senko's wacky rigged and dead stick it by the structure. 90% of the time they will hit it on the drop. Don't over work your bait. Fish don't get big by chasing bait. You need to be in the strike zone.

For Pike look for weed beds and run a white spinner bait over it. It will call them up out of cover. Make sure you fan cast the area incase they are moving.

Hope you catch the big ones.

Cindy Franklin

I was born in Southwestern Ontario in 1965. Both of my parents along with my younger sister and brother enjoy fishing. I have always loved the outdoors and spend as much time as I can out in it. I am an avid fisherman and hunter. My favorite hunting is for turkey and deer and my favorite sport fishing is for bass even though I enjoy fishing for whatever is biting.

I enjoy sharing my knowledge of the sport with any one who is interested. I work a lot of children's events and teaching our future anglers is very rewarding to me. If I can show one person something that will help them to catch more fish it will all have been worthwhile.

Fishing is a constant learning experience and I look forward to meeting, helping and learning from others.
