
Andre Dawson, nicknamed "The Hawk," is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) right/center fielder who played for four MLB teams, spending much of his career with the Chicago Cubs. An avid angler and deep sea fishing enthusiast, Dawson is committed to increasing the visibility of his beloved hobby, and has joined the World Fishing Network (WFN) in bringing the channel to the Chicago market. WFN is the only 24/7 television network dedicated to all segments of fishing with programming that covers instruction, tips, tournaments, travels, food, boating, outdoor lifestyle and more.
"We have an active, dedicated community of anglers here in Chicago that would love to see WFN in their own homes," Dawson said. "I hope to help WFN create awareness about signing the petition to bring the channel to the Chicago market."
Dawson was an eight time All-Star, won eight Gold Gloves, hit 438 home runs and had 2,774 hits in his career. Andre also had 314 stolen bases and 1,591 RBI.
After being selected in the 11th round in the 1975 draft by the Expos, Dawson made his MLB debut on in September 1976. Dawson was named the MLB’s Rookie of the Year in 1977, was an eight-time National League All-Star. Andre played with the Expos until 1986.
In 1987 Dawson signed with the Chicago Cubs and played with them until 1992. Andre played his home games at Wrigley Field and he hoped the grass of Wrigley would be gentle to his problematic knees. Dawson won the National League’s MVP in 1987 with a league-leading 49 homers and 137 RBIs.
Dawson played the 1993 and 1994 seasons with the Boston Red Sox and the 1995 and 1996 seasons with the Florida Marlins.
Dawson is also one of only three members of the 400 HR / 300 SB club, (Barry Bonds and Willie Mays are the other two).
Dawson was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame On January 6, 2010 in his ninth year of eligibility.
Dawson currently resides in Florida with his wife and two children. He graduated from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Fla. Dawson will be inducted to the MLB Hall of Fame on July 25, 2010, and is the only Hall of Fame inductee in 2010.
