Over the weekend of July 11/12, Kashaga Lodge hosted the first-ever Kayak-only fishing tournament in Ontario. The event saw 36 participants from throughout Ontario and Quebec brave the wind and weather over the two-day event. Anglers could register three bass per day on a catch-photo-release basis and digital cameras were handed over to the judges at the end of the day. In the Pro-Industry division, teams of two registered their best three bass per day and they could also register a musky to add to the total inches.

The event felt more like a high school reunion dockside then a competitive fishing tournament. It's always comforting, and informative, to be amongst people who share the same passion as you. At the potluck dinner, participants gathered to continue sharing fishing tales - many people stayed up until the last log had turned to ash. There was even a birthday cake and singing for Marco Potvin who celebrated his special day at the event.

Brianna Bennett caught her first ever musky on the weekend a beauty 28" fish on a wacky worm!

#

Corey McCord also landed his first ever a nice 40" fish.

#

Big Bass of the event went to Neil Danby who took home an Okuma Rod and Reel combo.

In the kids division the winner was Alex Goudreau who gave the bass heck all weekend!

I can't wait for next years event which should be huge and just as successful.

#Thanks to all the events great sponsors: Confluence Watersports and Ocean Kayak for both donating Kayaks as prizes for this great Tournament!

A great introduction to the Sport. Fishing was boring to me until I did it from Kayak. Whole new ball game!!

Jamie, I think we were more interested in having a good time and meeting other kayak anglers. The tournament was just a perfect excuse for a get together.
