It is no secret that the world is quickly changing and not always for the better. Environmental issues have been making headlines all across the globe especially with the recent oil spill in the gulf.

The Vancouver Aquarium has many different conservation programs put into place, one being Ocean Wise. Ocean Wise was created to inform the public about sustainable seafood options. Unfortunately not all the seafood that is consumed is done in a sustainable way, the aquarium works with restaurants and markets to educate the buyers as much as possible with scientific fact about what choices are sustainable and which ones are not. All through out Vancouver you can find the Ocean Wise symbol on display cases and menus to give the consumer the option of choosing an environmentally friendly option.

As anglers it is our job to ensure that the resources we currently enjoy are there for future generations. In order to do this we must educate ourselves on the current state of the environment and be conscious of our actions. Ecosystems are a very delicate thing; once they are destroyed it is very difficult and some times impossible to recover them.

I caught my first fish at the age of four and I have been hooked ever since. I have been hunting and fishing across Canada, The United States and Mexico since I was a child, my life revolves around the outdoors. When it came time for me to attend university, I laughed and thought there are no hunting or fishing courses. But there was journalism and media. I pursued a journalism degree and now I spend my time running Kawartha Lakes Outdoors, my fishing and hunting store in Bobcaygeon; when I am not out on the water or up in a tree stand I am writing about it.
