Linwood Acres Trout Farm

With the weather that we have had lately, it's a good sign that ice fishing for this year is over. The ice is getting thinner, and the snow is melting. It's still a month away till trout season opens region wide.

Until then, you can only fish the lake and the tributaries south of the C.N. Railway towards Lake Ontario. The weather at the lake is too cold for my liking, but for some die hard fishermen, the weather couldn't be any better.

Neither could the fishing.

Even though there is no fishing for trout in any northern area in my region, there is alternative ways to fish for trout. And it's a great learning experience too.

#

My friend Corey and I took a road trip on a couple of back roads along the Ganaraska, heading for Port Hope, to try our luck at catching trout...... We never made it to Port Hope.

#

On our trip, we came across a sign for Linwood Acres Trout Farm. Corey said he had never been to a trout farm or hatchery before, So, we made a slight detour.

I've been to Linwood Acres before, and knew what to expect,........ Corey didn't.

The trout farm has several pools, and ponds that they raise trout stock in, plus a pond for the public to fish at.

#

Just outside the main office, there is a pond that catches your eye when you first arrive. There is literally hundreds of trout !!!

The staff at Linwood Acres are friendly and are always a pleasure to visit.

Sarah and Dale were kind enough to show us around, explaining the whole operation.

I got to get up close with some of the most beautiful fish. We got to see the fish being fed and got some fishing in at the public pond too. It turned out to be a great day for both of us.

The Linwood Acres Trout Farm is a great place to take the family out. I'll be back there soon for a picnic with the family, and a quiet day of fishing.

When I first started fishing, I was about 5 years old. My family was on a fishing trip, and being the youngster, wasn't really interested in fishing, but would have rather been playing with the worms. I remember the fun that I had that day. That was thirty-five years ago,...
Back then, every kid knew how to set up a tent, go camping and most of all knew how to fish. Today, I don't play with the worms anymore, but I still fish, and now, I take my own kids,... And the neighbor's kids, and my co-workers kids and everyone I know that wants to wet a few lines. Instead of going to the movies, or an amusement park, why not try out something different. Take the kids somewhere to do something that we take for granite, fishing in the great outdoors. - Bryan H.
