John Strassenreiter

Bass fishing in Mid-caost Maine has been fantastic this summer. Warmer than normal temperatures have kept the largemouths very active. Smallmouths can be found in early mornings off points and ledges in 10 - 15' of water. Because of the reintroduction of Alwives in local lakes and ponds the bass are really loading up on these forage fish. Swimbaits, crankbaits like the Big O and tubebaits are all effective...

When the Fish Don,t Bite, LoL

Sometimes when the fish aren't biting you do funny things to amuse yourselves while on a boat, take this story, while fishing with three of my buddy's on Ocean Lake a couple of years ago, we decided to go on shore at a camp we know was opened, for nature calls and stretch our legs.        Now one of my buddy's (who we can't name) tills us that he has a problem with his sunglasses, seems the arm is broke...

The Treatyse of Fysshynge

From the "The Treatyse of Fysshynge With an Angle"  (early 1800's England)   These are the twelve flies with which you shall angle for the trout and grayling; and dubthem like you will now hear me tell: March The dun fly the body of dun wool and the wings of the partridge...

My Yamaha

What type of Yamaha am I...Well I am the type of Yamaha that will not dump on a great company for a few seconds of a advertisement. My Yamaha dealer is awesome and regularly throws in extra safety gear for FREE when I order parts or have service to my atv, and it's a Kawasaki bayou. They even order deal parts from Kawasaki for me nobody else does that. It is our job has parents to make sure our children are safe, the importance of helmets and life jackets should be instilled long before  any child rides on any atv or boat it's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY...

Large, Medium, Small, I Might Need Them ALL

Large Medium  and Small, I'll use them all... At least that's what I tell my wife everytime I drag a new rod home. The fact is you have to be prepared for anything. When you target fish It's easier to plan ahead for the right setup but you allways need that backup rod for the occasional shark encounter or unforgiving backlash. I sometimes wish a company would invent a rod and reel combo that would work on every species of fish, but that would be like asking Smith and Wesson to make just one type of gun...

Antique Fishing Tackle

My wife has been interested in fishing since she was a little girl. In fact her father tells me that when she was small he would help her bait her hook and cast it out, and she would then sit for hours waiting for a bite.  Her love of fishing was so great that when her grandfather passed away he wanted her to have what little fishing tackle of his that had survived over the years.       I am no expert on this topic, and I do not know if any of these things are worth a dime, but to her this collection is priceless...

Top Five Items in My Tacklebox

The top five items in my tackle box would have to be.. (1)  A pair of fingernail clippers for trimming line in the event of a breakoff, I placed them on a lanyard so I can keep them handy around my neck. (2) An assortmant of hooks. You never know what type of fish you may run into on the flats, and if the fishing gets slow you can always switch to light tackle with a bream hook and let the kids have a ball chasing pinfish...

Good Old End of Season Bass

I'm sorry I have not been on for the last month or so. After my last post i took a trip to B.C, to do some kokanee fishing and walleye fishing. It wasn't all that bad, but all i could think about was getting back home to fish for some more bass. It started off slow, but eventually the bite got better and better. I just bought a pink popper and it must be my new favorite lure, I've got tons of fish in the last couple weeks with it...
